British Council Vietnam states that standard IELTS delivery in Vietnam moved to computer after 29 March 2025. Listening, Reading, and Writing are completed on a computer, while Speaking remains an examiner-led interview delivered face-to-face or by video call at an official centre. Paper delivery may still be arranged for approved access requirements and in limited partner-institution settings, so candidates who need an alternative arrangement should contact their provider before booking.

That delivery context should shape practice, but it should not decide your test type or target score. Record the exact Academic, General Training, or UKVI requirement from the organisation receiving your result, complete a four-skill baseline, and use the gap between your current and required component bands to plan the next study cycle.

Rehearse Vietnam’s computer-delivered test workflow

Format confidence comes from repeating the real sequence of reading, entering, reviewing, and submitting answers under time.

  • Type complete Writing responses under time

    Practise planning briefly, typing accurate paragraphs, using the on-screen word count sensibly, and reserving time for a final edit.

  • Control Reading and Listening answer entry

    Rehearse highlighting, moving between questions, respecting word limits, and checking spelling directly in the answer fields.

  • Keep Speaking practice conversational

    Prepare for an examiner-led interview by answering directly, extending ideas naturally, and adapting when the next question changes direction.

Choose the test named by your university, employer, or visa route

Academic, General Training, and UKVI products are not interchangeable just because they share parts of the IELTS assessment.

  • Save the requirement before paying

    Record the receiving organisation, test product, overall band, component bands, delivery conditions, and application deadline from its current instructions.

  • Match practice material to the product

    Listening and Speaking are shared across Academic and General Training, but Reading and Writing differ, so use the correct task set from the start.

  • Treat UKVI as a route-specific decision

    Book a UKVI product only when the current visa or receiving-organisation instructions require it, and use an approved centre for that route.

Example route: separate Australian visa evidence from course admission requirements

For candidates applying to Australia, an education provider and the Department of Home Affairs can apply different English-evidence rules, so one copied target is not enough.

  • Check admission and visa evidence separately

    Save the current course requirement beside the current Student visa document checklist instead of assuming one automatically satisfies the other.

  • Confirm the accepted test and test date

    Use the current official instructions for accepted products, score rules, exemptions, and result age before you book or submit evidence.

  • Plan backwards from the application deadline

    Allow time for preparation, results, document checks, and a realistic contingency without relying on a fixed processing estimate.

Use component evidence to decide what to practise next

A balanced plan maintains all four skills while giving extra time to the components that are below your recorded requirement.
